General:
Teflon® or PTFE has numerous qualities that are highly desirable for
the manufacture of seals and sealing components. PTFE is unaffected by virtually all chemicals making it
an excellent choice for seals in chemical plants, petroleum refineries, oil and gas drillers.
PTFE can be used in temperatures from minus 450°F to +500°F which allows design consideration for
everything from refrigeration valves to furnace seals. PTFE is also an extremely tough material with the
lowest co-efficient of friction of any solid.
This is why numerous cylinder components like rod and piston seals,
wear bands, bushings and guides are made from it. FDA approval expands the uses of PTFE to include components,
seals and machined parts for food service and food processing equipment and pharmaceutical devices. Best yet
is the short lead times and excellent value offered by PTFE seals. With same day quotes on custom seals
produced in a week or less, PTFE may be the answer to your sealing challenges.
