General: Teflon®, or more precisely,
polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE),
is one of the most unique polymers available. It is a rigid polymer that is both moldable and machineable.
PTFE is highly desirable in many applications due to its excellent thermal, chemical, mechanical and electrical
properties. PTFE is unaffected by virtually all chemicals and can be used in temperatures from - 450°F to +500°F.
PTFE is also an extremely tough material which exhibits the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid.
The dielectric properties of PTFE make it an excellent choice as an electrical insulator. FDA approval combined
with the non-stick characteristics of PTFE are desirable attributes for the manufacture of food and pharmaceutical
components.
Applications:
Seals; valve seats and components; lantern rings and strip; wear rings, guides, and strip; bushing, bearing, and sleeves; specialty machine parts
